Wrought Iron Wall Clocks for Your Room

August 19th, 2008

The great thing about wrought iron wall clocks is that they
are made in various forms. You can find an item that is ideal for your house regardless
of what kind of décor you have in your interior design plan. Opting from among
the many wrought iron wall clocks can be a challenge but you can dig over
through the options if you take some things into consideration.

The first thing you want to mull over is dimension. This is
a truly important factor when deciding between different wrought iron wall
clocks. Several of them are very big and you want to confirm that you have an
adequate amount of room for the clock. An outsized piece of functional artwork
does little good if it is too big.

Then you want to settle on if you want the clock to be a central
point of the room. This will help you remove from the list some of the wrought
iron wall clocks among the many available on the market. Once you have narrowed
down your choices making it much easier to make.

If you are looking at wrought iron wall clocks as the probable
central point for your room then you truly want to look deep within yourself to
see what your preferences are. This is necessary in order for you to decide
which styles really go with your personality. While you might be attracted to
some striking wrought iron wall clocks that have a lot of whirls and particulars,
they may not be the best options for you personally.

Ensure that you keep your selections ones that you can live
with. Bear in mind that there are loads of wrought iron wall clocks but you
will only be selecting one. The right one should be a clock that you will feel
good looking at each and every day. Fashionable clocks might not be necessarily
ideal for your room.

Don’t forget about money. As there are plenty of wrought
iron wall clocks on the market today, there is also a gigantic price range as
well. Make certain that you check with your pocket book before falling in love
with an artifact that you can’t actually pay for. The good news is that you
will be able to find scores of wrought iron wall clocks that suit modest funds.

Multi-purpose Elegance: Wrought Iron Mirrors

January 28th, 2008

Artisans
have been using wrought iron to make everything from sculptures to
kitchenware to decor since the Middle Ages, when British royalty used
the metal in protective gates. Wrought iron is popular because it is
slower to rust than other metals, and resists pitting.

Its
rough surface also makes it easier to paint over or otherwise finish.
Wrought iron lost some of its appeal among blacksmiths with the
advent of cast iron and the less-expensive-to-work with steel, even
though cast iron has proven to be more brittle, and steel has a
higher tendency to rust.

Wrought
iron furniture has become a popular choice among savvy decorators who
want to add a simple elegance to their homes. Because of its sturdy
nature, it can be used in or outside, and has taken a significant
role in adding a Medieval feel to homes constructed in a much
different time.

Because
of its versatility, wrought iron furniture can be used in any room,
in its natural form or finished with paint or varnish.
Wrought iron mirrors are popular examples of Medieval style that has found a use
in the modern home.

Wrought
iron mirrors have always been popular decorative pieces, even before
the Grimm brothers introduced Snow White, the Wicked Queen and her
magical mirror to readers throughout Europe.

Now,
wrought iron mirrors have found a home outside of the castle, in
modern condos, apartments and ranch homes. They are used to embellish
other home interior styles, and fit in just about anywhere, whether
in the bathroom, behind a bedroom door, or in a front hallway or
foyer.

While
mirrors were designed to serve the vain, they no longer hold such a
simple role. Wrought iron mirrors can still reveal a viewer’s
beauty (or shortcomings), but can also serve a practical decorating
purpose. Interior decorators have long known that mirrors can be used
to make a room appear larger.

For
example, by staggering mirrors down a narrow hallway, the size of the
hallway can more than double. Decorators also use wrought iron
mirrors to add dimension to coffee or dining tables. Adding mirrors
to lamp stands or near lights significantly increases a room’s
available lighting, actually saving energy, as lower-watt light bulbs
can spread twice as much light by using the mirror’s reflective
abilities.

Authentic
wrought iron mirrors may be more difficult to find in retail shops
now that cast iron and ‘mild’ steel have replaced its general
use, but you may find a stray piece at flea markets, antique shops or
the occasional garage sale. They are also widely available through
online specialty stores.

Stylish Wrought Iron Wine Racks - Vintage Look With a Modern Twist

January 15th, 2008

Wine
is so much more than a drink these days. With the right storage a few
bottles of wine become a decorators dream. And there isn’t much that
gives an air of sophistication as much as a few well placed, bottles
of good wine. Whether you drink bubbly, red, white or a combination
you’ll find a wrought iron wine rack to suit your decor and
personality. If you can’t, then have one custom designed.

These
range from a one bottle holders on the bench, table, floor or even
suspended from the wall, to as dozens of bottles storage. The great
part is
wrought iron wine racks
are not
only stylish and attractive but they are very functional as well. If
price is a factor, these wine racks come in some very affordable
price ranges. These make a perfect gift idea teamed with a bottle of
wine, or alone.

The
designs available are endless really. It depends a lot on the
artistic flair of the person creating them. Like people they range
from flamboyant to quietly understated and everywhere in between.
Wall mounted racks are a great space saver and the sculptured racks
bring out the flavor of your home. Freestanding versions can be in
tower form or spreading luxuriously outwards. All manner of animals,
leaves, vines and timber combine to make some very delightful and
beautiful storage you’ll be proud to show off to your guests.

Wrought
Iron can be traced back to Roman times and was the metal blacksmiths
worked with. Even in modern design it gives an Olde Worlde feel to
your room. The signature black color fits any decor and the designs
can meld into the background or take center place in a room. Of
course, through history the metal was used for the practical side of
construction. Fences, gates, railing, frameworks were made from
wrought iron and even then the ornamental properties of working with
the metal became obvious.

Wrought
iron can sometimes be passed off with mild steel and the difference
is tricky to tell. Mild steel can be bent and worked as easily as
wrought iron but it has other inferior qualities. For instance mild
steel has corrosive properties and is often identified by the lack of
finesses in workmanship. Mild steel is the modern replacement for
wrought iron and it is cheaper but real wrought iron weathers better.
Some metalworkers are bringing the old techniques of forging back
into the art of working with wrought iron.

With
the understandings of modern technology combined with the charm of
vintage design and usage, wrought iron is now a much sought after
material to bring into the home. A metal once known as practical and
hard-wearing can now be described as elegant and innovative. The
smaller version are shaped in everything from winding grape vines to
insects, and the larger wine racks bring a very impressive and even
majestic feel to any room.

Even
if you don’t drink a lot of wine, you probably have friends that do
so having a wrought iron wine rack means you can easily store a small
amount of bottles for visits. Some are designed in a carrier style
enabling you to pop a bottle of wine or two in and carry it easily.
Some are as simple as resting over the neck of a bottle and hanging
two glasses from either side. Practical and stylish, a wrought iron
wine rack is a great addition to the functionality of your home.

Wrought Iron Stair Railings

August 2nd, 2007

Wrought iron stair rails have really stood the test of time. These elements have been around for generations and they are still going strong. The wrought iron stair rails add a touch of traditional style to just about any home. They also serve a practical service as well.

Many people need quite a bit of support when going up and down steps. Many rails used today provide support but they can also be very bulky and overwhelming to a small space. Wrought iron stair rails provide excellent support without taking up too much room and without being too big.

Even with all of the benefit of buying wrought iron stair rails for our home I was still apprehensive about it. First of all they cost a little more than their wooden rivals. However, they do require less maintenance and they are more streamlined.

Vinyl railings were simply not an option for our project. These railing just didn’t offer enough options in style and design. They also require more maintenance than the wrought iron stair rails. There was no doubt that the durability, selection and maintenance-free nature of the wrought iron railings made them a superior choice.

We had to decide between iron and wood for our Tuscan style house. What made me apprehensive about getting wrought iron stair rails was the décor of my porch and outdoor landscape. I was leaning towards wood because I have architectural details in wood on the outside of our house.

These attractive wooden features are painted white and they are the perfect detail for the cottage-style house. I wanted to keep consistent with the wooden accents on the butter yellow home. Wrought iron stair rails didn’t seem as if they would fit with the yellow and white colors on the house and we definitely didn’t want to cover up the beautiful iron with paint.

My husband decided to make the decision. He chose wrought iron stair rails. The black details worked perfectly with the white and yellow house. In fact the stain glass in the door and windows stands out much better with the black wrought iron stair rails pulling the black details in the glass together.

This entire experience has taught me a couple of things. I learned that sometimes you need more than imagination to see how things will turn out in the end. I have also learned that you can’t go wrong with wrought iron stair rails.
